How Adventure works

Tailored training for all levels

Join our Yachtmaster Instructor Richard for a “buffet style” training week, where you can learn to sail, improve on your skills and or just enjoy the beautiful sailing. The Algarve coast offers a perfect training ground, suitable for all levels, from absolute beginners to aspiring Yachtmasters.

An adventure voyage takes maximum 4 Guests and A very experienced skipper (Yachtmaster). Our yachts have three double occupancy cabins, with double beds.

You don’t need to be an experienced sailor to join. Most participants book alone.

Trip day to day

Embark on a 6-day sailing adventure along the beautiful Algarve coast, where you’ll have the opportunity to earn valuable RYA certifications. Our journey begins at Marina Portimao, offering diverse scenarios for learning and practicing essential sailing skills. Whether you’re a novice or experienced sailor, this trip caters to all levels.

During the RYA Competent Crew segment, you’ll focus on safety, sail handling, knots, using safety equipment, steering, dinghy operations, and anchoring. As you progress to the RYA Day Skipper level, you’ll gain the confidence to take command of a sailing yacht. This includes comprehensive training in passage planning, execution, docking, anchoring, mooring, sail trim, and much more.

Our experienced RYA Yachtmaster Instructor, Richard,  will guide you through this educational and rewarding sailing journey. So, set sail with us and chart your course to becoming a competent and confident sailor while exploring the stunning Algarve coastline.

Below is an example of how a typical adventure week might unfold. This itinerary is flexible and can be adapted according to the weather conditions and the preferences of the group:

At Marina Portimao, we’ll begin our adventure by mastering the essentials. Here, you’ll learn the art of boat handling and parking in a lively marina setting. We’ll spend the day navigating the river leading into Portimao, a perfect classroom for anchoring in tidal conditions. This hands-on experience sets the stage for our journey, ensuring everyone is comfortable and confident with the basics.

As we set sail eastward, our journey will be shaped by the whims of the weather and the ambitions of our crew. The day will be a blend of learning and leisure, as we practice navigation and sail trimming, interspersed with moments of tranquil sailing. The Algarve coast unfurls alongside us, a tapestry of golden beaches and rugged cliffs, reminding us of nature’s grandeur.

Our highlight today is the tidal estuary of Faro. We’ll anchor near Culatra Island, a jewel amidst the sea. Here, you’ll experience the unique challenge of anchoring in tidal flats. Onshore, we’ll explore the island’s serene beauty, a stark contrast to the bustling marinas. This day combines practical skill-building with the appreciation of nature’s serene beauty.

We sail to Olhao, a town that breathes the sea. Its fishermen’s tales are as deep as the ocean. Here, we’ll explore the town’s rustic charm and perhaps indulge in some local seafood. Depending on our pace and preference, we might set our course towards the river Guadiana, where Portugal meets Spain, offering a glimpse into the merging of cultures.

If we’ve reached the Guadiana, today will be about exploring the river that serves as a natural border. It’s an opportunity to witness the harmonious coexistence of two distinct cultures along its banks. If we’ve chosen a different route, we’ll be exploring more hidden gems along the Algarve coast, each with its own story.

Today, we start our journey back to Portimao. It’s a time for reflection and refining the skills we’ve honed. The sea, a demanding teacher, would have imparted lessons in navigation, sail handling, and perhaps, life itself. As we sail, the Algarve coast will seem familiar yet new, as we view it with more experienced eyes.

we arrive back at Marina Portimao, our journey’s end. This final day is for sharing experiences, consolidating our learning, and perhaps, planning our next adventure. The sea has a way of calling us back, and as we bid farewell to the Algarve, we know this is not a goodbye, but a ’till next time’.

We part ways, carrying with us memories of the sea, newfound skills, and perhaps, a deeper understanding of ourselves as sailors. The Algarve’s charm lingers in our minds, a call to return to these azure waters.
